Star Cursed: The Cahill Witch Chronicles, Book Two

Star Cursed: The Cahill Witch Chronicles, Book Two - Well Jessica Spotswood... you wanted "brutal + awesome, with kissing"... you delivered. In the second book of the series, Star Cursed dives right in shortly from where the end of book 1 left off. Cate is now a part of the sisterhood, having left Paul and Finn and her sisters with no explanation in order to protect them. Sister Cora, is gravely ill and it's expected that Cate will be leading them at some point. But even though Cate is becoming stronger as a witch, she still hasn't shown any signs that she is the witch mentioned in the prophecy. As usual, characters do it for me in a story, and Spotswood delivers. I honestly am struggling to think of characters I have despised and loved more than the ones in The Cahill Witch Chronicles. The only time I've had such a visceral reaction to characters was when I was reading My Life Next Door and I wanted to crawl INTO the book, find Nan and kick her in the babymaker.I wanted to do that with several of the characters here.Let's start with The Brothers. I mean. I get it... I understand what their ultimate goal is, but I can't be happy about it. I swear I'm not a fly your flag feminist, but holy balls, I wanted the tables turned on these guys so bad it actually hurt. Which leads me to Maura. The anger I have for this girl... I can't even tell you. Every time that Cate made some sort of effort to mend their issues and every time she went out of her way to be kind I wanted to shake her. This girl, while I understand her hurt from book 1, went out of her way, more than once, to hurt Cate. Sure, sure... sisters fight, but for Maura, it seemed that everything was a competition and she was the one who would do anything to be first.so I hate her. Okay, okay ... now that I've gotten that out of the way, we can talk about Cate. I adore her. All the things I said I wanted to shake her for above, are part of the reason I love her. She is loyal and smart and she has made sacrifices that, even though she questions, she sticks to. And Finn... “Good night,” Finn whispers, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “I love you, Cate Cahill. You are beautiful and brave and strong. Whatever happens next, we’ll deal with it together.”The sneaked meetings, the sneaked kisses, and his devotion to her is so damn lovely. I mean he joined the Brotherhood ... THE BROTHERHOOD... for her. Alright... there you have it. I'm not saying anything about the ending of this book ... instead I will share with you my status update from the final page... 100.0% "I CAN NOT CONTAIN THE RAGE!!!!"My verdict is that if you haven't started this series yet, get moving! Spotswood has written an incredible second book filled with conflict and suspense. I am so excited to see what she brings us in book 3 and I'm hoping she'll unbreak my heart.
