More than Meets the Ink

More than Meets the Ink - Elle Aycart alright... I think I'm ready to review this book. I did not like it as you can tell by the stars, but I was so hopeful and I think that's why I was as disappointed in this book as I was. If there was any silver lining to reading this book .. it was that it taught me to go into contemporary romance with no expectations. I read that summary and I was totally on board... but as I read more and more I couldn't help but become more and more irritated with the heroine, and for me, a heroine makes or breaks a book for me. So... Tate is running her family restaurant after her father and her brother die in an accident. She's the only family member who wants to make the effort. Her sister has checked out and her mom has moved to Florida. A fire at the restaurant drains her of all her savings and she's struggling to keep afloat... pain in the ass suppliers and workers have left her feeling hopeless. So she goes to Florida and enter "wickedly sexy James Bowen" he's a bad boy and not the settling down type... but that changes immediately when he meets Tate. I seriously thought the plot of this book was solid, but I didn't connect with the characters at all and I really really really disliked Tate. I found myself skimming quite a bit and even the sexy stuff wasn't all that good for me and I'm pretty easy to please LOL. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why James was even bothering with Tate to begin with. Some of the phrasing really threw me off too - i just can't stand the phrase "ate at her mouth"... it makes me think he's/she's trying to chew on their face. DO NOT LIKE. Sooooooo yeah... lots of strange suspicion thrown everywhere on who is trying to sabotage the restaurant and James comes in and rescues her and Tate runs away because he's a 'bad boy' and she doesn't do bad boys... one star for me. BUT I will say this, I know people who liked this book so there's that.
